Frequently Asked Questions

Meet Your Counselor

I am warm, compassionate, and can be humorous if the situation requires it. Life can be full of twists and turns, which requires flexibility and adaptability. Often these qualities get lost in crisis and trauma. I am capable of using metaphors, stories, and allegories to make a point and to get clients to think outside the box. If you decide to work with me, you will quickly learn that I am also a good listener who allows you to communicate at your own pace. I look forward to helping you in any way that I can to face and conquer life’s challenges that you may be facing.

I have been a counselor for 10 years, but have been in the field of psychology for 15 years.

Pricing

Unfortunately, at this time, insurance does not cover our visits. However, if you are currently experiencing financial hardship, pricing adjustments can be made.

All sessions are a flat rate, as listed on our “Pricing” page. If, however, you are experiencing PROVEN financial hardship, a fee adjustment can be arranged prior to the start of treatment.

All first-time sessions are a flat rate of $100. Subsequent sessions are $75/session.

What does therapy look like?

There is no set timetable for how long it will take until you feel better. Relief may come from a variety of sources, including making changes in your thoughts, behaviors, relationships, and choices. This may take time to achieve.

Brown’s Counseling and Consulting, LLC follows the professional, legal and ethical guidelines of the American Psychological Association and the state of New Jersey. This means that information about your counseling sessions is not shared with anyone without your expressed written permission. There are some exceptions to confidentiality, however. If there is the possibility of harm to the client or another person, or in cases of child or elder abuse, we are mandated to report certain information to the appropriate authorities. Please ask for more information about confidentiality when you visit.

The frequency of therapy is mutually agreed upon. It is largely based on your presenting issues and the goals of treatment. It is very important that you arrive early or on-time for your scheduled appointments. Regular, timely attendance of your counseling sessions will help you to achieve your therapeutic goals. If for some reason you are unable to make it to your scheduled session, please call in advance, preferably 24-hours ahead.

All sessions last about 45 minutes.

All visits are 100% remote via Zoom, Skype, or telephone. This offers the ultimate in convenience and privacy, because all sessions can be done from the comfort of your own home!
